The Town Clerk may issue a marriage/civil union license to the applicants the same day of the application, provided all signatures and statutory requirements are met.

You will need:

  • Proof of age (Driver License, State Issued ID or Passport will suffice)
  • Picture ID (Driver License, State Issued ID or Passport will suffice)

If either party has been previously married you will also need an original (NOT a photocopy) of the following:

  • A certified copy of a final divorce decree, if the applicant is divorced
  • A certified copy of an annulment decree, if the applicant’s previous marriage was annulled.
  • A certified copy of a death certificate of a former spouse, if applicant is widowed

Both parties must appear in person to file marriage/civil union intentions as the signature of each applicant is required.

The license shall be valid for a period of not more than 90 days from the date of filing. Currently, the marriage/civil union license fee is $50.00.

IMPORTANT INFO:

Lincoln Town Hall does NOT have a Justice of the Peace available on site to perform ceremonies.

Who can perform ceremonies? Anyone (with a few caveats of course)!

  • A Justice of the Peace commissioned in the State of New Hampshire;
  • Any minister of the gospel in New Hampshire who:
  1. Has been ordained according to the usage of his or her denomination; and
  2. Resides in New Hampshire; and
  3. Is in regular standing with the denomination.
  • Any minister who resides outside of New Hampshire but has a pastoral charge wholly or partly in New Hampshire, if the marriage is performed within his/her parish.

OR

  • If your officiant does not have the above designations or is not a New Hampshire resident, they must apply for a Special Marriage License in order to perform the ceremony through the NH Secretary of States Office Quick Start Platform.
